Who says small can't be stylish? That's the mantra I held onto as I set out to build this modest but beautiful aquarium cabinet from common whitewood. To give it a unique touch, I decided to go with a custom oxidation treatment for the finish. This process was achieved by applying a vinegar and steel wool solution that reacted with the natural tannins in the wood. The result? A charming, weathered look reminiscent of vintage barn-wood, all without losing the simplicity and functionality of the piece. To protect and enhance the wood, I finished it off with a layer of wax. This not only amplified the rustic look of the cabinet but also added an extra layer of protection. Simple, yet effective.

Storage might not be the most glamorous part of a project, but it is certainly essential. Especially for a nano reef aquarium setup where every inch counts. So, this cabinet was designed with storage space and shelves, perfect for tucking away supplies and maintaining a clean look. We even included a special spot for the auto water top-off system, making sure the nano reef’s water level stays consistent while keeping the overall setup tidy. integrated custom-secluded magnets were added to the doors for a secure and smooth closing experience. Nothing fancy, just practical solutions for a peaceful nano reef environment.

In essence, this project is a testament to the beauty of simplicity. It was a straight-forward, uncomplicated build that resulted in a functional and aesthetically pleasing nano reef aquarium cabinet. A clear case of less is more.
